I picked up the banjo quite by accident back in the early 90's. I was unemployed at the time, so for something to do while I waited for my next employment opportunity I scraped together $200 and took a community adult education course wherein we built a lap dulcimer and then learned to play it. It was cheaper than therapy. Initially I was more interested in the woodworking than the music, but after the instrument was done I discovered that I could actually play it. This led a few months later to my purchase of a banjo kit from Music Makers, and the rest is history. I currently own half a dozen banjos. One of them is an A-scale Fairbanks & Cole made in 1890. You can read all about this banjo on my web site, just go to https://www.thekimerers.com/brian/music/fandcbanjo.shtml I am mostly self taught on the banjo, and I play mostly for me and the squirrels. I have done a few pickup gigs with friends, but other than that it is something that I just enjoy doing for myself. I mostly frail, although I have tried out the finger picks on occasion. My main banjos are: Bart Reiter Special Goodtime openback Goldtone Maple Classic Fairbanks & Cole A-scale openback
