This is my first on several fronts. This will be the first time I have ever written a blog. It will also be my first effort at restoring a banjo. If I succeed I will start my first attempt at learning to play it.
What I have appears to be a Slingerland Maybell from the 20's or 30's. The peghead has the single white star on black. The body is maple. The flange has six-point stars cut in it. The resonator has a sailing ship decal on it. When you take off the resonator on the back of the skin F. McPartland '32 and Class of "32" are written in pencil. The tuning machines are missing and two of the holes are elongated. The skin needs to be replace. It needs refinishing but I'm not sure about that. I want to maintain the decal on the back which is in pretty good shape. Frets seem to be in pretty good shape although I haven't really examined them closely yet
As soon as I figure out how I will enclose some pictures. In the meantime any comments or sugestions would be welcome.
