I've played other instruments and styles for years, primarily electric bass and blues/rock/country, and came to clawhammer banjo by way of dobro and Ivan Rosenberg's recording Clawhammer and Dobro. I thought "what is that popping sound?" I was aware of bluegrass banjo but more interested in dobro and I was vaguely aware of clawhammer banjo but totally unaware of what it was all about until that point. My dobro has largely remained in it's case since getting 'ol Stink my bought used Goodtime banjo named for the smell of stale tobacco smoke that wafted from the wood grain for the first two weeks after I brought it home.
