I would like to add to the body of knowledge concerning Johnny Ford. My wife and daughter and I had the occasion to have every Friday night dinner possible at the Fish Market restaurant in Alexandria, VA in the middle years of 1970. We would always stay for Johnny's show until closing time. Over the years we got to know Johnny personally, as well as his wife. It was a fun place to be and we always took our friends and out of town guests there as well. We have two of Johnny's albums that later we had copied onto CD's. Unfortunately, we were transferred to WY in late 1970 and that ended our dinners and face to face contact. However, one our friends who been there one night with us remembered him when she was planning a big DOT retirement party in the early 80's. He was a big hit with all in attendance. Later, when I had heard he was having medical issues again, I got his phone number from my friend and called him. He was living in one of the Carolinas at the time. The conversation was difficult and his memory was not serving him well. I later heard he had died but I don't when, etc.
Johnny made a big impact on our family and all those who attended his shows, they may not have appreciated banjo music per se, but they knew talent when they heard and saw it. He was the best!
