More About Me
I have been making stringed instruments to sell for over 12 years before that i started working in wood from a very young age my grandfather was a cabinet maker and my father was also very good carpenter who made everything from horse carts to farm gates and fine furniture and he encouraged me to do like wise which i did and many years later having inherited his fine tools i finally started to make things in wood at the same time i was trying out guiter and mandolin playing i wanted a good mandolin but truth was i could not afford a quality instrument around this time a sobell mandolin cost around 3000 dollars so i decided to make my own after a steep learning curve and with the help of a book called the making of early stringed instruments i started . after a while playing and redifining my targets i built up my skills and knowledge a semi pro player bought my first mandolin and encouraged me to make more which i did and then i met Jerry Douglas when he was recording atlantic sessions in my home town that started me on resonators but my best shot was Ken perlman now then open back banjos came on line and since then every type of banjo can be made by me in scotland chattanluthiery .com gets me no two instruments will be the same the only thing the same will be the quality and workmanship there will be no compromise there. my prices are comparable with many other luthiers hand made instruments Euan F Cattanach Luthier

Euan Cattanach is not only a wonderful craftsman but a gentleman luthier who helped me to realise an amazing maple banjo in the winter of 2018/19. The project is a lifetime highlight and the result is absolutely brilliant instrument. Hand crafted from billet wood and based around a warren Yates no hole time ring and rim. This is as good as it gets in my humble opinion. - 1967Treeman
