Just started this two finger thumb lead style a couple of weeks ago after watching Roscoe Holcomb on some YouTube videos . Ederly Music is now selling John Cohens new DVD about Roscoe's music and his times . After about 30 years of guitar and mandolin playing I took up Scruggs style banjo and it was a good fit since I was a fingerstyle guitar player . However I became bored with the thin sounds when playing this style solo , I believe Scruggs is soley an ensemble style .Took up Clawhammer and really liked it's solo sound . You would think that two finger would fall into that category of thin sounding , but it does not . I think it may be due to the constant drone of the first string being played with the index finger . Also check out Roscoe , he also played the guitar the same way . There is not all that much material out there for thumb lead . It must be an old ancient way of playing , somewhere between down stroke and frailing ? I'am currently working on two songs for thumb lead , Pretty Polly and Get Along Home Cindy . Also noticed that the tunings for two finger can be way different form clawhammer . Here is a link to Roscoe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wGgvbHcgyc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV_Lh5uWGnQ
