Ashokan Farewell Tab

From elmangle on 8/6/2011 1:18:42 PM

Anyone have a 2-finger thumb-lead tab for this tune?  I would like to play it along with a fiddler for a friend's memorial service soon.  I could adapt Mike Iverson's clawhammer version, but it's a bit difficult for me.  The fiddler wants to play in D, so I need to learn it either in D or in a C tuning that I can capo up.  Will appreciate any help.

It IS possible to capo at the 7th fret to play in D in a pinch. I do it all the time, myself.

Thanks, Marc. Actually, I do that frequently with Old Joe Clark, since I'm usually playing with guitarists, but I thought maybe playing down the neck would sound better with the fiddle. What do you think?

Sorry i don't have a tab editor but if you were to strip the fancy stuff out of Iverson's tab, sustutute the 5th string for the 1st 5th fret in the B part and do the rest of that 1st string walk in the B part on the second string two frsts higher you can probably find your notes, the double D tuning will work just fine in this cae and you can drone of the 5th string A for your fifth and the first string for your root. The A part melody notes are mostly 0,2,4 on the 2nd, third and fourth strings, i think you can do it. If stripping down Iverson''s tab is difficult for you try and just listen to the basic tune.

Good advice, but I have to admit that I'm still learning the melody....a process that sometimes is pretty slow in my case. Usually, if I know the melody, I can pretty quickly find all the notes in open G, but, for this tune I was hoping a tab would help me with the melody. Normally I don't like learning from tabs, but thought I'd make an exception this time. (Too lazy, I guess).
