Just purchased a Lange Triple X

From Leslie R on 10/3/2014 11:35:19 AM

Is anyone still actively participating with this group?  I hope so. I just received my Triple X, purchased this from Intermountain Guitar and Banjo.  It is a walnut plectrum.  Maybe some of you saw it on their website.  The resonator is scuffed up pretty good, but it's not split.  I think it's one of the earlier ones.  The resonator is made entirely of wood.  The neck is in good shape.  It came with a skin head, kind of thick, and it's old.  Seems to be holding together OK.

I played 5 string for 34 years, then changed to using a 6 string neck.  I added a high G, using that as 1st string.  I have had to use Guitar Banjos for this, but have come to like them.  I tuned it up this morning, and it was kind of awkward playing just 4 strings, but I do like the banjo.

Leslie, (this response is related to your recent post about "fixing" the resonator system). I'm not quite sure what problem you're describing that needs fixing. I sincerely hope that you can find a more natural, & less intrusive way to approach this instrument than (duct tape, velcro, drilling & magnets !).
I've rebuilt & played several Triple X's over the years & have never found their clip-on system to be troublesome. It's true that some vintage banjos have resonator attachments that leave a little looseness, but I try to compensate for this by handling it w/ a different touch, & just live w/ some slight play.
A Triple X Plectrum is a very nice instrument to have. TD

Thanks for posting a useful comment for Leslie, TD. I am still around, just quite busy with other projects (Vega Style-M website, and various other musical and non-musical pursuits). I have been keeping the Triple-X website up, the most recent being cleaning up a pile of spam and adding some images of Brian Shano's Wolverine, which he has linked to this group.

Soon I will post more images including some of a 5-string Triple-X.

Best,

David

I think I'm gonna sell mine. I have enjoyed it, but I need to thin out the herd, a lot actually. If you know someone who is wanting one, feel free to mention this. The resonator is solid, but it is scuffed. The rest of the banjo is excellent. I don't recall what I paid for it. I'm not going to try to hit a homerun or anything, just a fair price or slightly lower maybe.
