Took delivery of a new 8.1 yesterday. Even after a long flight and delay by Customs, it arrived within the timeframe promised.
It looks better in the flesh than I'd imagined, nicely constructed with well-chosen walnut (see pics on my home page). It's plenty loud enough for me, so I've stuffed a sock in the back. The Steinberger tuners seem almost tailormade for the Tranjo and my first experience with them is very positive. They look crammed together in pictures, but there's absolutely no problem for someone with sizeable hands to tune. Very smooth and accurate. I bought this instrument intending to use Nylgut strings but I'm now reluctant to part with them. The tuners I bought to replace them would poke out too much in the back, anyway.
Friends don't recognise it as a 5-string, thinking it's some exotic beast, but all admire its simple shape and handsome woodwork.
Thanks, Sam! A pleasure doing business with you.
