Good economy banjo strap

From Tom Berghan on 2/10/2011 5:33:11 PM

Playing with strap results in greater comfort and good ergonomics generally results in playing better.  But straps can cost a lot of money . . . even upwards of a 100 dollars!

Here is a great thrifty strap.  It has rubberized hooks so you only need one strap no matter how many banjos you have.  It hooks onto the J hooks in just seconds and will not scratch the banjo rim or hardware.  I own one.

Woah, this is a great strap! And good ergonomics mean less strain on your back (which I hear can be a pricey repair :)).

I've been looking to replace the shoelace-guitar-strap setup thing for ages. Thanks, Tom!

Is it adjustable? I need a shorter strap than most.

It is adjustable. Actually, I am pretty sure ALL straps are adjustable. I have never seen a musicalr instrument strap of any sort hat was not adjustable. I believe they have figured out that humans come in a variety of shapes and sizes! ;-) (just teasing you)
Best Wishes,
Tom

I have found the Lakota Leathers Cradle strap to be the most comfortable strap for me. It does cost 50 dollars, but it is super soft, and comforms to you so well, I can hang my banjo as long as I like and not get sore like I did with my first strap cutting in. It is a cradle strap, so unfortunately you need one for each banjo.

You make a great point Tom. I will cut corners when I can, but to me, being able to play without pain is important. Just making a suggestion. I have a 20 dollar strap, not sure what to do with it as I could not practice long before It started to hurt. So this effectively made my first Lakota strap $70.00.

Good looking strap. I'll have to try one. On the other hand, I've been buying those $6 guitar straps and running a small dtrip of leather through a hook and connecting both ends to the strap with a chicago screw. Got one on all my instruments with very little investment. However, this one could easily be used as a one for all.
