Good source for old banjos

From John Herrington on 3/18/2011 8:55:07 AM

One of our Hangout members, Mark Ralston, buys old banjos out of attics, garages, and other trash heaps and repairs them. He is an expert at this enterprise. His Home Page is very interesting and his website http://www.yellowstone-jewelry.com/  illustrates and describes the banjos he has reworked and lists for sale.

This past year I purchased a fine old junker Buckbee from the 1890's that he had reworked. It still bore the marks of antiquity, but the sound with nylon strings in key of "e" just really turns me on! What a simple wonderful piece of history and pleasure to play. He always has a number of old banjos he has rebuilt plus demonstration performances on utube.

I encourage you to look him up. The old Buckbee sure does beat a Goodtime in my not so humble opinion. In fact I've had nothing but a "good time" with it.

So we either scout around and get them before HE does, thereby making his job harder, OR we buy them from him, thereby making him a wealthy man, subject to the envy of his less enterprising neighbors.
Either way sounds like we're doing him some sort of harm.
