I decided on my Stealth in 2004.
I knew I wanted a walnut banjo, so I e-mailed Scott V. with a bunch of questions. This was a great experience.
I ended up with:
The black head is thicker than a Remo frosted, so it likes to be a little tighter than the G# that Scott usually sets the Stealths up with. As near as I can tell, my head is pretty close to an A.
Having used D'Addario med strings for years, I just did NOT care for the .012.5 G string that came on my Stealth. I've settled on Black Diamonds : .010, .012, .014, .022, .010. Perfect for me.
The only things I've done to my Stealth are:
Got a Vintage Elite-Z maple bridge from Desert Rose (Scott Z). Wow... I wasn't prepared for the difference that I got from this bridge. Fantastic.
Installed Keith D-Tuners on 2 and 3. I got black buttons from Bill Keith because they're smaller than the stock buttons- which makes a BIG difference on the Stealth's peghead. The spacing is still a little tight, but the tuners are definitely workable. I'd really like to install levers on these tuners like Bill has on his.
Let's hear about *your* axe!
