Audio from 1972 TV Show

From Buzzbomb on 1/2/2016 10:39:35 AM

I just found out about these audio recordings from the "Bill Gatton Chevy Show" from WYCB in Bristol, TN. From the dialog it sounds like it was a short-lived show - as Ralph mentions at one point that if enough people come & visit they could get the show for the next year.

The quality is quite rough in places, but I think it's noteworthy as it's got a couple of performances by Dr. Bruce Mongle, who was Carter & Ralph's physician & played at the Hills Of Home Memorial festival in the 70s (at least 1973, 75 & 77).

May 28 1972 - The Angels Are Singing In Heaven Tonight / Cry From The Cross / Little Maggie / Will You Miss Me / Katy Daley.

June 5 1972 - Theme / Riding On That Midnight Train / When I Get Home / Dr Bruce Mongle - Atkansas Traveller / Brand New Tennessee Waltz / Take Your Shoes Of Moses / Don't Cheat In Our Home Town.

June 11 1972- Theme / Orange Blossom Special / Rang Stranger / Dr Bruce Mongle - Pretty Little Bird / Nobody's Love Is Like Mine / Going Up Home To Live In Green Pastures.

I think the Ralph Stanley museum is also located in the house that Dr. Mongle lived in...

************

A couple more shows from May/June have surfaced:-

Set 1 - Theme / Orange Blossom Special / Rank Stranger / Dr Bruce Mongle - Pretty Little Bird / Nobody's Love Is Like Mine / Going Up Home To Live In Green Pastures / Ricky Skaggs & Keith Whitley - Lonesome River / Theme.

Set 2 - Theme / Lonesome Road Blues / Stone Walls & Steel Bars / Stanford Stanley & His Clinch Valley Boys - Blue Yodel # 3 / The Coeburns - Lonesome Valley & He Will Set Your Fields On Fire / White Dove / Pig In A Pen / Sally Goodin / Theme.

Stanford Stanley was billed at Ralph's Memorial festival in McClure 1976-84...

Good stuff, Buzzbomb!!
Anybody know anything about this Stanford Stanley?
Google doesn't turn up anything......a relative of Ralph's, possibly?

"Distant kin I guess" is what Ralph said. From a quick scan of a geneology site & David W Johnson's "Lonesome Melodies" Stanley Brothers bio I think Stanford & Ralph probably had the same great grandparents (James Stanley & Rebecca Beverly), but I could be wrong.
His full name was Donald Stanford Stanley (bn 1924 d 2005).
