Has Anyone Heard of these Guys?

From Paul R on 1/12/2014 4:57:18 PM

The Slocan Ramblers are coming to Kingston (Friday, 24 Jan). A banjo player at the Thursday jam said he'd heard them, and they're a lot like the New Lost City Ramblers. I hope there's still a ticket available, 'cause once he mentioned the NLCR, I was sold!

The SR is a Toronto-based group. It says on the flyer that they play Bluegrass and Old Time. I guess I'll have to find out for myself. I'm looking forward to at least some of that old OT music.

Has anyone seen and/or heard them?

Check out their website to hear them. I just listened to their samples, and I would say they're a cross between "new-style old-time" and "old bluegrass". But you can come to your own conclusion here: slocanramblers.com/music/

Thanks, Marc.

I'm going into town tomorrow and will be looking for a ticket.

Paul, sorry I missed this post, and this show! For some reason I never get any notifications when someone posts here in the group anymore. I don't know if I changed a setting or what... anyhow, hope you got your ticket and had a good time.

Yeah, Darren, it was great. The banjo player in the Ramblers, Frank Evans, divided his time between his Nechville BG banjo and his Rickard open back. Their show had a better "banjo balance" than their CD. The sound was great, in a small hall (about 200 seats).

I talked with him and the others after the show. The mandolin player, Adrian Gross, is a Montrealer (Hampstead - Marc will know that area). In fact, they had just come from a gig in Montreal.

The next show is David Francey at the end of the month. Tickets are available at Brian's Record Option. The venue is the Octave Theatre, in the French high school on Dalton, just west of Sir John A.

Maybe you should contact Eric and see about getting posts. I'm sure there's a way to get the notifications back.

Hey! I know Adrien Gross - or at least I knew him when he was a kid. He was in elementary school with my son, and they were good friends. Small world.
