Hello Tony!

I'm interested in the RSB approach to backup. Reading through RSB (well a search...) the only mention of backup I find is your discussion that you don't know many chords.

I've learned lots from RSB - pretty much how to play, but I still find in large jams there are more songs I don't know then those I know. When in one of those frequent situations, what's a banjo player to do other than bum-ditty some chords?

	oldwoodchuckb says: 1/11/2012 1:01:38 PM I admit I do have a thing about chords, and RSB does avoid them, although in the dozen or so tabs in Chapter 11, which is about song accompaniment with the banjo I do cover some techniques that involve chording. I will say that if you know the chords you can certainly use them. I have chord names above most of my tabs and you can get chord diagrammes fromm other sites. My problem is not having the resources to embed chords into text. But I do use a text form of writing chords on the HO and plan to start using that in RSB 2nd ed. Using a combination of a bum did-dy and a repeating pull off. from a chord position (a la Buell Kazee) iss a good way to accompany songs and simpler fiddle tunes. I should do up a specific tab on this, but I'm so rusty on song back up (I don't sing now so I never do it) it might be a problem. Here is a clue for jamming to fiddle tunes - there are rarely more than 4 chords involved I IV V and the iv chord. The small roman numerals indicate a minor chord. Learn these 4 chords in D, A and G - and you've probably got 80% of al the chords you will ever need. Can I post jpegs to this? If so I could scan in my old Chord sheets - if they still exist.
