Oh my, what a great Nonnon Saturday Night Live on 9/1. Odawara BG Kenkyu Kai started first and with Banjo Man in their band. He's just too good. Next was Yokohama Bay Stars with an excellent male vocalist, Nakano San, and finally the show of the night Honey Nights with one of the best female vocalist 'round and Koyama San on banjo - another one of those "Banjo Man" types. So, the shows were great and the crowd was pleased. Then came Jam Time. The band leader, female vocalist & madolin picker, of Lonesome Cannonball came up to the mics with her regular guitar picker and selected bass player, fiddler and Banjo Man. Excellet job and performance. Then our own Rising Sun Pickers' Cula San and my son Ken were called up to the mics together with an excellent fiddler, bass player and Koyama San on banjo. This time Cula San was on mandolin and, of course, the lead vocal. Ken was with his Martin D-28. My-oh-my, it was as if this band-scramble/mix had been playing together for years. They brought the house down with John Hardy in G, Man of Constant Sorrow in G & a medley in D as follows: Soldiers' Joy, Arkansas Traveler & Whiskey Before Breakfast. After 3 they're supposed to change but, they got called for an encore and did Old Home Place in G. In my opinion, they stold the show! The breaks each musicians took in each song/tune were right on! Backups and rythm were perfect. No short cuts to the songs/tunes either. They were lengthy. And oh, the endings! Those guys were in sync. What a night.
