Jam, Practice & Hangout @ Cula's

From banjocase on 8/4/2012 5:59:14 PM

Yesterday, my flapicking son, Ken, and I left Hiratsuka right at noon to go to Cula's home in Yokohama to jam and practice.  (The pronunciation for Cula is "Chula," the same as Chula in Chula Vista.)  The time-distance from our place to Cula's is approx. 1 hr. including the transfer time, etc.  When we arrived we found ourselves in the most happiest, friendiest, spacious, well furnished, well equiped environment you could imagine.  What a surprise this day turned out to be.

The afternoon at Cula's was more of a practice session and lasted for 3 hrs. plus.  I got to jam two songs, Cripple Creek & Blue Ridge Cabin Home, within that time frame.  But, the two played and sang numerous songs such as Arkansas Traveler, Blackberry Blossom, Blue Moon, Summertime, Grandfather's Clock, Black Mountain Rag, Whiskey Before Breakfast, Daddy Payed the Banjo, Bill Cheatham and the list goes on.  And, all at a rather fast tempo too.

Cula and Ken are in the works of becoming a bluegrass duo at Clubhouse Nonnon.  I think, for now, Cula's going with the band name Texas Tea.

In addition to all of the above, we got to meet a generous and happy family of 4, eat delicious food and drink some fantastic coffee.  What a musical day!

Jay, I second that. You and others in this group are more than welcome to join. Boy I suddenly feel the need to practice harder after saying that. I can barely survive Ken's fast and furious pickin as it is now..

Btw what's the legal limit in Japan for the number of banjo that can ring at the same time? :)

One too many, I suppose.
