Hakone bluegrass August 24-26, 2012

From cula on 7/16/2012 6:54:20 PM

Guys,

Has anybody's been to this festival before?

http://www.ne.jp/asahi/bunny/gator/hakone/ehakone.htm

I'm thinking of going with my wife and kids (6 and 4 years old) but not sure if there's a decent place to stay around the site or not. Camping might not be an option since I have zero experience on building a tent :) But if that is the only option, I might think about it.

I assume there'll be jamming circles? so bringing instrument will be allowed?

Any other tips on what to bring, or general info on how it really is over there will surely be appreciated.

Thanks, Cula

Hey Cula, good to read that you're interested in this Hakone Sunst Bluegrass Festival. I've never been to one, but I heard from others that it's lots and highly rated. "A picture is worth a thousand words" as in the link you posted. You might want to go to YouTube to learn more about this festival. Of course you must take your banjo, etc. 'cause you're gonna be on stage!

Oops, that's, "I heard from others that it's lots 'of fun' and highly rated. Ugh, I hate it when I do that (so often)."

This is a major japan festival. I havent been for a couple years but went regularly for years. It is a camping festival, its in the mountains and there is nothing close by like hotels etc. If you cant camp there is always a comunal room where everybody in a same situation sleeps at night out of the weather. You can send questions to the festival promotor Gator Nakanishi, a friend of mine, he speaks good english and can answer your questions. There is EXTENSIVE jamming all day and all night and lots of friendly people
