Hi guys,

I just recently moved from Texas to Yokohama, and I've been hearing about how humid and hot summer is in Japan.

So if there's any tips on how to maintain our musical instruments against this humidity and heat I'd really appreciate it. A friend suggested putting some de-humidifier boxes that you can find in 100-yen store, will this be enough? (assuming I can actually find this item at the store in the first place)

banjocase says: 6/20/2012 4:34:16 AM Howdy Cula. Welcome to the Kanagawa Prefecture. I hope to meet you one day. Dessicant is available everywhere here in Japan. Ask a store clerk for "joshitsuzai." Try Tokyu Hands, Royal Home Center, Daiei and convenient stores as well. Also, by some oil paper, for cleaning dust, and fold a sheet in half and cut it, then fold the halves in half and cut them again and continue until you get to the square you like for use to wipe down your strings after practice, playing or jamming. This will lengthen the life of your strings. Put these oil paper squares in a plastic pouch and take them with you to you local jam spots and bluegrass events. Good luck and happy pickin'.

Don't want my 5 strings to be swollen up absorbing all the moisture :) I actually start feeling the humidity increased a bit after the typhoon last Tuesday. Btw, your lines "local jam spots" and "bluegrass events" made me cried tears of joy :D I live in Yamate area and it seems that those live-houses you mentioned on the other forum (nonnon, etc) is only about 45 minutes from here. I'll let you know whenever I'm heading there.
