Kunimoto and Last Frontier

From desert rose on 4/20/2012 4:09:09 AM

I wanted to announce that Takaharu Kunimoto and Last Frontier with my good friends J.P. Mathes  on banjo and his lovely wife Leona on fiddle will be playing Back in Town in Tokyo on Friday July 6, 2012. Always a good show!

Good news, but, prepare to encounter Tanabata commuters.

A wise metro policy. BTW, have you ever been to Clubhouse Non Non in the Tsujido section of Fujisawa?

No I havent, but I have heard friends mention the name.

Scott,
Thanks for the heads-up. I will do everything I can to get to Tokyo that week. Leona is the BEST fiddler out there in my book, and super nice to boot.

Yes, Jay, Leona is an excellent fiddler. My son and daughter played alongside her and the "Leotard Man" years ago in a finale. The BEST though? I learned long ago to avoid confrontation by labeling anyone "the best" 'cause there're too many "Better Ones" out there. However, your book is your book. Good comment and remember to be ready to confront the TANABATA commuters.

I should give a strong heads up to JP as well, he is a very very solid banjo player. One of the principle instructors at the Kentucky School of Music and Kunimoto is a famous celebrity in Japan

GREAT video. The Shamisen works well with Bluegrass. JP is indeed solid on the banjo. This 6 July event will be one not to miss.

Yes, Sir, I see what you mean. Actually, after you mentioned that Kunimoto-san is a celebrity here I went to YouTube and this is the clip I chose. Where have I been? First time I heard his name. Thank you, Scott, thank you.

Very cool - 3 strings, no frets.

Here is some trivia I bet most here dont know. Leona's father is a Japanese rock star. Her father is a very in damand guitar player and is known by his stage name Doctor K. Many years ago he was famous as a Venturers style surf guitarist.

banjocase says:

Yes, I heard something that he was a professional guitarist. The rock star occupation is news.

If others are interested in Doctor K's resume, go to rocosmusic.com and/or rocosmusic.com/drk/profile/profilee.html

He "is" a professional guitarist. My apology.
