As a follow-up to Patrick's earlier post, just curious about what strings work for you guys.

A couple of weeks ago, for the first time changed the strings on my Fall In Love. My other banjos all sport AMB cryos, 10-11-12.5-20w-10. On the Prucha, the results were hAAAaarrrible -- this terrible ringing emanated that never had been there before. Nothing else about the set-up was changed. The one downside to having a sensitive, responsive instrument!

Mike Stanger generously gave me some helpful suggestions (thanks, Mike, talked me off the metaphorical ledge there). Tightened down the tailpiece a bit, loosened the head. Better, but still rang. Hopped over to the local supply store, got a bunch of heavier gauged D'Addarios, and started swapping one string at a time, just one every couple of days.

Finally, back to happy normal. 10-12-13-22w-10. Maybe a tad lighter than what previously was on the banjo, but the ringing is gone. Whew. Interestingly, same gauges as GHS PF145, which I used before switching allegiance to the AMB set.

	stanger says: 7/26/2014 9:01:01 PM Learning to think outside the Gibson mastertone box always takes a while. Prucha banjos may look similar to the Mastertone design, but they are not even close to it once all the small changes are observed. I may have had a little easier time of it when I got my first Prucha, because my Ode banjos are also far out of the Mastertone paradigm. They taught me to avoid thinking that what may work best on a Mastertone doesn't apply to all other banjos at all. regards, stanger

	Chris Cooper says: 11/11/2014 11:16:55 AM Stelling mediums (blue packet) or the Gibson Earl Scruggs signature mediums suit my Prucha fine, both sets are the same gauges. I actually prefer lighter strings but my Prucha won't play in tune up the neck with anything lighter than these two sets.
	jswkingsfield says: 5/31/2015 7:01:20 PM Just an FYI: I tried a pack of Siminoff Medium strings, and my Fall In Love went a little flat, as in loss of energy. BUT, a set of Siminoff Heavy strings went on today, and the Prucha sprang back to life.
