Just a few questions about Prucha

Jarda sent me a medium set strings:11,12,14,24,11( seems not standard ). Do you use other strings gauge ?

About solid resonator, "voiced" what does it mean ? my english is so poor ...

	stanger says: 5/20/2014 2:16:49 PM Your English is very good! A voiced resonator is similar to the back of a violin. The center of the back is thick, then is carved thinner a short distance away from the edge, then the edge is thicker again, but not as thick as the center. This is the way the Massif resonator is voiced for a conventional resonated banjo. Only solid woods can be voiced. Jarda voices his top tension banjos in a different manner. The Gibson top tension banjos' resonators were carved as above on the outside, but the wood was left flat on the inside. This gives the top tension banjos their distinctive tone. Prucha does the same, but voices each top tension resonator with shallow carved hollows to balance the banjo's voice. This is done to bring up the bass response, for example, or to damp down any shrill response on a high string. These scoops all vary from banjo to banjo, but most of the inside wood is left flat. His medium gauge strings are on the heavy side of medium, but are similar to some other sets of different brands. You may want to experiment until you find gauges that you like best. Single strings are available in about any gauge, but are usually more expensive than when in sets. I often buy a set that is close to my own favorites, even if the set is not perfect.
