My friend Carol, whose most prized banjo is a Prucha top tension, called me up today. Her banjo suffered a fall, and the peghead broke!

Luckily, the break was clean and did not snap the peghead off. The peghead veneer was intact and unbroken, so the repair should be relatively easy and should be good and solid afterwards.

I kind of felt like an emergency room doctor must feel when I went over to her house. She is very attached to her banjo, and for her, it was like having a kid with a broken leg!

I strapped it all together with painter's tape, and she found some excellent soft foam packing I used to cradle and suspend the peghead in the banjo case, and she's off to a repair man tomorrow.

I have gone through the same thing a couple of times, but never with my Prucha, and I understand her deep attachment; the resonator on mine took some severe damage when a strap broke while I was playing it and the banjo dropped onto a cement sidewalk. The reso was sent back to Prucha, who did a masterful repair on it- the damage is almost invisible now.

But it was sure a moment of deep pain for me. I hope the best possible results for her, and she's gonna be an unhappy gal until her banjo is back, ready to go again.

	stanger says: 7/12/2012 10:54:45 PM I just heard from her today! The work is finished, and she just went to fetch it home. She was thrilled when I called her this morning after some last minute detail work was done. When a banjo takes a hit like this one, very often the neck gets honked, and some fret floating might be needed. This was the case with the banjo- there was a little buzzing on one fret, and the truss rod needed adjustment. All good now! The damage to her beloved banjo was softened a little bit before the repair was finished- she got a hot deal on another Prucha TT, made of walnut, not maple, and she liked the differences. I expect the walnut TT won't get played much now for quite a while, though... that broken banjo was her first real good one, and she loved it best from the minute she bought it. I think we can all relate...
