Artichoke Music Slow Jam Class - REVIEW

From rachel.love on 2/5/2011 8:22:36 PM

Hi Portland Pickers,

I attended the Slow Jam class today over at Artichoke music and it was definitely a great experience! I have to say that this was my first real group jam experience, other than playing with my banjo teacher and his family at lessons.

This was very different, really fun, put me outside of my comfort zone but in a way that was very... um, comfortable. The leader/teacher was Richard Colombo and he made everyone feel so welcome and never put anyone on the spot (other than the obviously advanced players). I arrived a few minutes late but was able to jump right in with everyone with little fanfare which was pretty amazing.

I should also say that I was the only banjo player in a room of about 20 people. There were a couple of dobros, maybe one mandolin and uke each and the rest were guitars. I sort of hoped there would be more banjo players so I would have someone to watch but it worked out ok.

Since it was my first jam and I didn't know what the heck I was doing I tried to play really quietly, but somehow people heard me and said I was doing a fine job!

Overall, it was a great experience, highly recommended and I will definitely be going back! I hope to see some of you there next time!

Cheers and here's the class info again:

Nice job! And a banjo can never be too loud. Also, a 1/20 ratio is perfect : ) keep pickin
