retuning question

From BoJack on 10/13/2014 5:51:32 AM

I am intrested in using nylguts my question is do they work ok if you retune often? Say from G to double C and back and forth....do they require a lot of fussing with hem when you do this or do they work ok

Thanks for any advice and guidance

Hi, I find these strings work very well in different tunings, I had no problems with mine at all.
All the best from Bill. :D

I just installed Nylgut minstrel strings on one of my minstrel scale banjos. I also use reds on a flush fret and 25" scale mountain banjo. They work great but I do not find them effective for standard G Tuning. I tune down to double A, D, and E. The minstrels really thump in the lower tunings on long scale minstrel banjos.

I have used Nylgut strings for years. Some folks complain about breakage but I do not use them for G Tuning. I tried it but find the strings to loose their natural feel and my guess would more often break with high tension. I installed a set of minstrel Nylguts on a minstrel banjo and hated to get rid of natural gut strings that have been on the banjo for a few years. As it turns out; I like Nylguts better. It is tuned in double E. The 4th string is wound and the feel is very natural as it is the tone and projection. David E.

My banjo is constantly changing from G to DD . I have no difficulty retuning.
Only after changing strings go nylguts require lots of attention.
I love them

Japus, yeah they seem to pop either straight away or never, don't they?

The only nylgut I had pop on me was trying to tune without my tuner.Tuner went bad, and I played POP goes the stringer...LOL
