I have fishing line on my minstrel style fretless , and I really like the sound. My setup is , No Tone ring , Calfskin head , with bootlace for tensioning instead of tacks.

Do you notice any difference in feel using different "weights", and what are your regular thicknesses or weights (forgive me if that isn't the right term for the strength of the monofilament). TX2AK says: 6/5/2012 1:33:53 AM For fishing line strings, I've found florocarbon to rock the party! I use 20 lb for 1, 2, and 5; 30 for 3; and 40 lb for the 4th. I found 40 lb floro to have the tension of much heavier mono, and it's a lot thinner. Worth a try. I posted a while back, and some folks said they got a huge improvement going from mono to floro, then another jump from floro to Nylgut. I don't understand the science there, bc Nylgut is a monofilament nylon, but the formula could be different. Could also be the bite or grip - I run mine through some sandpaper 2-3 times to tough them up, and get plenty of grip. If you want to stick with what you've got, and just change the 4th, I doubt floro just there would be a problem. In the experimentation phase, I tried just the 5th in 12 lb floro, and found that it overpowered the other strings, I'd be surprised if that was a problem with the 4th, and is probably s testament to the advantage of florocarbon.
