2 Vega's with fishing line and no tone rings...A Deering built Little Wonder and a Folklore SS-5. Both are long neck banjos. Both have a LaBelle wound 4th string.

To look at the banjos, one might think that the sound produced would be very similar.

It is not! The Little Wonder is nice and bright and the Folklore is much bassier. Both are loud.

The head tension and tail piece down force are as close as I can get them but they are two vastly different banjos in terms of tone. The only major difference I can see is the thick "clubby" neck of the Foklore

I like them both and I guess I will adapt the two to different songs...not a bad problem to have

	japus says: 3/6/2012 10:02:53 AM Regarding tone. My wife had to make a decision between 2 dulcimers a few years ago. She wasn't able to decide between them so the 2 were purchased. Same mfg, same set up, same strings. 2 very different sounds coming from them. Both are made of black walnut, one has a top made of cedar. Tonal qualities are vastly different, however both are very nice. She plays different songs on each one. So the point I'm trying to make is various wood that instruments are made from means so much.
	john bange says: 4/30/2012 11:13:11 AM sold the Folklore to buy more banjos...ended up with a Deering Boston long neck to keep along with my Vega Little Wonder. The Boston has a steel rim for a pot. I was a little leary of this at first but, the tone of the nylon strings on the Boston is very good, nice and loud, just a little brighter than the all wood Vega. Both banjos are keepers. I also sold an Aluminum rim'd Baldwin Ode long neck that was very good with nylon strings.
