I've een pictures of black nylon strings on a fretless. I've also seen them on a classical guitar.

Are these different in any way other than colour? I get the impression that they are heavier. But I don't atually know.

	Bufo Bill says: 2/13/2012 1:37:20 PM I recall a thread in the Building section in which it was said that you could dye strings using nylon clothes dye. I know John Bolin offers sets of Nylgut strings that he describes as "antiqued" ( I think?) which some may have tried and might let us know. I am afraid I have no personal experience of either of the above, but I don't think my memory is playing tricks. I thought it would be cool to experiment to see if I could get a set of bright red strings using the dying technique, but time and money have never allowed me that luxury. Sorry I couldn't be more help, perhaps someone else can chip in?
	Bufo Bill says: 2/13/2012 2:01:15 PM I forgot to say that many fretless players like myself use thick strings so that we can use lower tunings such as dGDF#A, the thicker strings helping to keep the tension high to make playing easier. Most nylon strings are the same as on guitars, and most strings are pretty much made in the same way, excepting Nylgut sets, so basically you can go to a string store on line and order boxes of mixed string guages and just experiment, if you are so inclined. Pesonally I sneak a peak at string guages on the packaging of string sets to compare with what I have at home, they are usually printed on the back of the pack.

For different coloured strings you could try fishing line. I have fishing line in a wide range of colours. Its easily avalable and cheap but I would happily send you a few lengths as you're in the UK. Paul

	stringbeaner says: 2/21/2012 10:18:20 AM LaBella makes (or made) a set of black guitar strings, I think they were called 'Folksinger'. You could probably make up a set of banjo strings out of some of these. The LaBella banjo sets are just too limp for me.
