Hello All

I recently acquired an Aristocrat Special serial number #13634. Can anyone provide me an age on this banjo or point me toward the right website.

	wuzapicker says: 9/5/2017 8:25:45 PM I'd say 1929 based on banjos I collected or interviewed and some dated period paperwork I've seen. Lange had his best production years between 1927 and 1929. Most published serial lists assume uniform production, but the facts indicate an increasing tempo that reached a fever pitch in 1929 then dropped off suddenly. Between 1921 and 1926 some 7500 units were produced, then between 1927 and 1929 some 6000 additional units resulting in 13xxx serials in 1929. In my years collecting and talking to other collectors, I've never seen or heard of any Paramount banjo with a 14xxx serial number. It's almost like Lange tried to mask the annual shortfall by skipping the 14xxx bracket. Paramount serials are seen in the 15xxx to 16xxx range, but these are mostly low end models. Lange ceased banjo production with bankruptcy around 1935. That would indicate after 1930 only some 2000 Paramount units were produced. That does not include the really rare Super Paramount banjos which followed a different serial number category. Michael
