Three Finger C chord - Ugh!

From Stardust0262 on 2/6/2015 6:23:11 PM

Hi all, I'm currently working on developing my left hand with the 3 finger C Chord and am having a lot of trouble getting the middle finger across to the 4th string.  Just wondering if anyone has come across a   particular technique or manner of holding the neck that allows for a smooth chord on/ chord off action? Any feedback is most appreciated. Cheers all

Steve

Hi Steve, I have struggled with the F Chord for nearly two years. Then I read about this technique, and after a very short time I was able to do it with no problem. It is quite simple. Hold the chord shape on the banjo and play all the strings to see that it is clear. Then just sit there and watch Gunsmoke for awhile while keeping your fingers in that position, without pressure, just in the right spot. A little later, add back the pressure and see if you are still getting a clean sound. Fix it if needed and do it til Gunsmoke is over. That's all it took for me. I hope it works for you.

...I find it helps by keeping the thumb at the back of the neck, it enables you to roll your hand around further to the 4th string and avoid damping the first string ... but each day you should notice SOME improvement, same with the F chord ... which I find a little more difficult, but practice makes it easier ... cheers

Well Banjo Lefty, the ring finger sits on the 1st string 2nd fret and the Index is sitting on the 2nd string 1st fret, and the middle... well it just aint reaching the 4th string not matter which way I try. Not without blocking strings 1, 2 and 3.
