Fellow Giesers, happy New Year! Starting banjo after 50 has been both fun and frustrating. Ever feel that way? I want to be good right now, but realize that I have no depth of experience to rely on and just wondering if It's too late. Fortunately I got the rare opportunity just recently to attend a wonderful workshop on "up picking" by the very talented Ms Nora Brown at the Floyd Country Store in VA. Several talented young players were there who just seemed to soak everything up and it was a joy to watch and listen to them play. Then there were a few of us more mature pickers. Most had been playing for years, so that was great too. My guess is that there were maybe 2 of us in the 50 plus club who were just starting. Nora was amazing and I think each of us took something away that could help us play better. If you ever get the chance, don't hesitate to join in for a workshop, jam or whatever.
