First Beat

From dewbanjo on 11/18/2011 5:04:27 AM

Just learning, and want to get off on the right foot.  Is the first "beat" given more emphasis? The Tom Twist video(s) sound to me like this is happening (Juba).

Thanks bamjosnapper, I am also using a metronome set now at 80 BPM. Would normal "play" be about 100 or 120 Bpm??

Build it up slow, solid, and steady. A good goal is around 130. As I said in that video, this is a technique that is also a song....it's worth the extra time to feel real confidant with it, as this "movement" will appear over and over in the repertoire.

Also, I find I need to keep the lower (80 BPM) until I get good clear notes, not muffeled. This is what I had to do when I was learning Clawhammer tunes. Thanks again for your support!!

Yes...be patient. It's worth it. Every note in this old music carries weight.
