Welcome

From donmullins on 1/28/2011 11:05:16 AM

Hi. I thought it nice to have a spot where MI residents could post about local jams, festivals or just informal get-togethers. Feel free to post about bluegrass in your area.

Although not the primary purpose, posts about instructional opportunities (camps, etc..), and plugs for a quality local instructor, would also be appropriate.

I will not heavily police this group. It is open to all BHO members who live in Michigan. If anyone begins to present a disruption to a friendly and jovial environment, please bring it to my attention.

I hope this becomes a fun social group allowing all of us to improve our skills through live session play.

Rob,
Thanks for accepting the invitation.

For those who don't know, Rob has generously posted an extensive series of tutorials, both banjo and guitar, on you tube. He does a great job of breaking the songs down note for note and then putting it back together. I recommend them, especially for newer players.

Hi Don, this is a good idea to get the Michigan pickers into a group. Am looking forward to "local" news and interests. THanks.

Don, thanks for startng this. I'm in my second year playing (only started clawhammer this year though). I know of a few in Northern Lower Peninsula that play, but haven't had a chance to jam with yet. This may open up more avenues. Now if I can make the dang time!
Thanks again!
Rob "Iceburg" Burg, Grayling.

Rob,
My motives are mostly selfish. One can only progress so far without the experience of playing with others. And, like you, my schedule is very tight so I figured the more opportunities I knew about the better chance I would have to find a jam to sit in on. That said, I hope this will be of benefit to all of us here.
How far is Howard City from Grayling? There are jams at Zellie's Opera House rather often if you can make the trip.

Hey Don, wonderful idea!Hooking up with others will be much easier with this addition to the HO. I have seen the listing for Zellie's on folkjam, if I get out that way I will be sure to drop in for awhile. It's a pretty long drive from Detroit, so I won't be able to get away too often, Tom

Great idea Don.
Just wonder if this page includes the other hangouts and if not is it possible? Don't get me wrong i like trading licks, but I also enjoy meeting/playing with folks who play other instruments.Maybe just have to join the other ones and scrounge through they're postings eh?
