Gauge

From banjooud on 6/24/2013 12:51:01 AM

So many different gauge for so many different banjo .

For low tuning on my tackhead i have used Bob Thornburg strings and works well  :

1st string:    023   (0.575mm)

2nd string:   026    (0.675mm)

3rd string:   036   (0.925mm)

4th string:   0.90mm fluorocarbon

5th string:    026   (0.65mm)

Now i wish to try gut' string on modern banjo with standard tuning and for  my old mandoline Pollmann banjo who set up actually with classical nylgut , so i assumed that i must try equivalent  gauge that nylgut ...

Nylgut Classic standard  tension is :

1 : 022 (0.56mm),

2 : 025 (0.63mm)

3: 030 (76mm)

4:  .025W

5:  024 ( 61mm)

Which experience have you with gauge ?
