My KK10 Conversion

From ALT on 2/15/2011 7:20:32 PM

I hope my banjo qualifies for this group. It started life as a Kel Kroydon KK10 tenor that was given, yes GIVEN, to me in the mid 60's. It sat around until circa 1981 when my banjo teacher said it had Gibson hardware on it.   Soooooo, with the help of Stew-Mac and Liberty Banjo I started to build a 5 string.  What I got was a very decent banjo for not a lot of money.  Probably under $400.  The pot is original except for the Stew-Mac no-hole tone ring, coordinator rods, and tailpiece.  The mahogany neck / fingerboard came unfinished.  I did installation of the pre-cut Gibson/ FE  inlay, fretting, binding, final shaping, staining and laquering.  I took the resonator down to bare wood, which is why the Mastertone block should probably say "Acetone".  The resonator is attached with the 3 original brackets and screws (not 4)and the wood rim has the original black paint.  Banjo has been finished for 30 years.

Thanks for sharing Al! Looks like a great conversion, and a banjo that has served you well all these years! Just the stories this group likes to read about!
