My 1928 TB3 Conversion

From impickin5 on 6/15/2014 3:53:53 PM

Just found this group. I bought a 1928 TB3 no-hole ring conversion a little over 4 years ago,(s/n 8977-25) with an exact 5-string repro neck by Larry Cohea (which he made in Dec. 2000). Since then, I've tried out every conversion out there, but always went back and put the original no-hole ring back in it. Just love this banjo and will never part with it.

Yes sir. I had a 27 Style 4 with a no hole arch top ring before.

I think people should always think long and hard before changing out an original Mastertone Tone ring be it a brass hoop, Ball Bearing, Archtop or whatever. They knew what they were doing back then. Besides that many of us agree that A LOT of the "pre war tone" is generated by the rim.

I'm glad you like your no hole arch top. Link some pics/vid/mp3s to the group if you can.
