Geo P. Matthew Mandolin

From Inquisitive on 5/1/2026 8:01:55 PM

Hi sorry for going off topic but I have a mandolin made by George P. Matthew (Soho Hill Works, Birmingham). Is it odd that he made a mandolin?

There is an English Patent number associated with it, but it Google has no corresponding record of an expired patent with that number. It also has a DRGM number.

Interesting stuff. Thankyou for posting. I've not seen a Matthew mandolin before. Please would you add your photos here.

Hi there, l can't see a way to add photos :(

I have put an advert up here: banjohangout.org/classified/114992

However l now think it was probably priced too low as it would have been a limited run of the instrument.

Any thoughts? I have many more pics but this website only permits 5 pics on an advert for some reason!

You need to post the photos on your home page then when you click on a photo, on you home page, there is a link beneath the photo for posting to the group. As far as the 5 pics you can just add another five and so on. Sorry I have no idea with regards to a reasonable price.

OK thanks l've just uploaded some pics. I'd appreciate any input whatsoever :)

I have re-uploaded my advert. I have reduced the price. I am sorry it is not banjo-related as such, the link is tenuous, the manufacturer made banjos.

I had some interest the first time l uploaded the advert but it all drained away when l got nervous and requested to complete the transaction on eBay. I hope l was not being unfair. I just dont know the people here too well.

I suspect the mandolin was an import from Germany by the way, i.e. an OEM where the Geo. P. Matthew finished the product. I'm not even sure what finishing his factory would have done.
