I have a #6 Fairbanks Imperial Electric banjo from around 1900. It is missing finish from a small (5/32") spot at the point of the back peghead laminations on the back of the neck, and I wish to touch it up to prevent any further trouble. Do any of you have any recommendations on this?

	darwinyarwin says: 6/15/2014 2:48:26 PM I'd avoid all the complications of trying to match finishes, shellac, etc. to fill the spot. A good coat and buffing of Renaissance wax will stabilize the spot and protect everything without doing permanent change to the patina or the finish surrounding the spot. Usually it will hide damage like that pretty well, if not 100%. You can touch it up every year or so.
