jbalch 4Star Goat Skin on my 12Inch Tradesman

From mrphysics55 on 5/15/2013 8:35:58 AM

I just installed a jbalch 4Star Goat Skin on my 12Inch Tradesman. The skin is good and tight. The tone and volume are excellent! I'm quite pleased with the result.

My only problem is I only have one banjo left that doesn't sport a skin head but I have another jbalch skin "waiting in the wings".   : >O

I had the Balch goatskin head put on the banjo after having a calfskin on it for about 7-8 years. It still is breaking itself in, but it does give a sharper than the calfskins. Thinking it may require heavier string, curious as to what gauge of strings you are using with the goat skin. I moved back over the years from the 160s to medium-lights or almost mediums, but feeling I may go back to 160s or something like it. I use this banjo predominatly for old time frailing, and maybe a little 2 finger, though I think 2 finger works better on a banjo with a tone ring or an RB, Not that everything does not work well enough with a Tradesman.
