Hello all,

I have turned my interest toward electric banjo. Currently, I use an electric guitar converted to a six-string banjo, Thinking about getting a cheap electric model (Sojing) and having set-up and essential upgrades to come in less than I would have to spend for a better grade solid body. However, at some point I want it to be something that plays well. Any thoughts????

I have read that a strat-o-caster (or imitation) is a good start, but why? I have looked for: 20-22 frets (but how the neck connects to the body-is that important?) What kind and how many pickups? I've seen 3 pickups and assume that more pickups is better, but do I want a neck pickup? I'd like to get an electric guitar that I can initially string with 5 strings and tune as a banjo for silent practice. In future, if I want to butcher it further and put a practice drum head on it, etc. I'd like to at least be able to use the same guitar. Please be specific, thank you in advance.
