The Doc's Baroque 169 I just bought came with a 3/4" x 46mm bridge which is taller and wider than I'm used to. I typically use 11/16" x 44mm (Crowe) spacing on Reiters. I ordered an 11/16" and 5/8" bridge from Doc (both gorgeous cathedrals). When I measure the distance from the strings to the head or to the frailing platform, it's a good bit higher action on the 11/16" sample versus my Reiters. The 5/8" was lower action (unmeasured), but the 5th string popped from the slot without too much thumb action - and Doc is adjusting it. I measure THAT bridge as having 45mm spacing which might be good for me, given bigger Nylgut strings versus steel on my Reiters. It's amazing how much 1-2 mm or 1/16-2/16" makes. The Doc's is beautiful but it will take a bit of adjustment (action) and practice (me) to be able to switch from banjo to banjo.

Only been playing for a couple of years now and started out with Scruggs style, so being ignorant of most things I ordered my Docs with an internal resonater hoping to play all styles on it, I hadn't started my clawhammer then. So a year down the track I find I play Scruggs on my Washburn B17 and then change to Clawhammer on my Baroque, doesn't seem to work so well vice versa ha ha. Seeing as how I'm learning it helps with the different styles and I've found that where I loved picking, the sound and the versatility of the Docs and I'm pretty sure I get a little more creative, is surpassing the picking. In short I guess I'm trying to say that because I use a different Banjo for a different style I don't find it a problem switching, I do find that after picking, clawhammer on the Baroque is so relaxing and I think easier on the ears, or it could just be my playing, though never had a problem with the 5th.
