I'd encourage you to give Doc a call: (503) 831-1529. I was at his place a week or two ago and he has a whole range of great banjos available right now.

I looked at the homepages of group members, and only a few actually list owing a Doc's, while at least one member has two. Of course, some members don't list ANY instrtuments specifically, so they could own Doc's. I'm curious why there are only 9 Doc's Group Memebers...

i have visited his web site and i could buy new but i might find a used one save a few bucks and let the seller recoup a good part of his investment.

Hi jmoathout and welcome drjack. Why only 9 members, not sure as there are lot more out there with Doc's in their possession, perhaps we're special because we also belong to the Hangout. This group has only been going for a year so maybe more time is needed, but I started it for a heap of reasons, primarily being a new comer and looking for help and advice. I think that as activity grows so will the group and the post that you put up certainly help on that score, unfortunately my knowledge base is of not much help but with members like Darren in here it goes a long way to helping us all as he sees Doc on a regular basis. Also a plug for Darren here, have a listen to his CD, I have one and listen to it often and think, this year I will be that good ha ha. drjack how are you coming with your pursuit of a Doc's, have you got any leads. Cheers Al

Drjack, I played several of Doc's banjos at grass valley festival last year. The ones with the scalloped fret board were my favorite. I love the feel of them! I could not afford to buy one, but I'm considering selling my car ( '58 ragtop bug ) to get one.
