Porch Pickin' ?

From BanjoBelle on 4/18/2012 8:20:13 AM

How many of you do some playing on your porch or in the backyard? I'm re organizing the front porch so I can sit & play while being surrounded by flowers I've potted & are blooming.

That's a loovely idea, Sherrie. Right now, I'm sneezing too much to play outside. I did reorganize two rooms in my house just for my banjos. ☺

You & my Dad both-I have occasional sneezes, but he's got hayfever like you wouldn't believe. Wow...two rooms for banjos? and music books,I take it?

No, I moved my banjo and other instruments into a new room to make room for my new banjo when it gets there. Music books are in three different rooms. The piano stays put!

I would imagine the piano stays put. # different rooms for music books?? You sound as bad as me. I collect vintage 20's sheet music too.

Yes, they're all over the place. I have some of my Mom's and Grandmother's sheet music along with my own. ☺

Oh that's soooo neat to have music passed down that way. OhI hit the shift key by accident on the previous post I see. What's the oldest songbook/sheet music you have,do you think?

Probably late 1890s.

I have a great big old oak (estimated by arborist around 150 years) right in front of my house and I sit under there just about every day to play my banjo. The birds and the squirrels join in sometimes (or maybe they're complaining....?)

That's wonderful. I bet the birds and the squirrels love accompanying you!

now that sounds like fun. I adore old big old trees! Have the squirrels made any requests? ;-)

Wow! I am thrilled to find the LADIES!! I call the gals my "girlgrass" friends. I have been on bh for a few years and I didn't know this blog was here. I do play on my front porch and always have enjoyed it a lot. Right now we live in a 110 year old house and the porch is small with 2 or 3 rocking chairs.

OOps! I also have birds and squirrels and they are so much fun to watch while I play. Sometimes I take my grand daughter with me and we run through all her tunes, too. We have changed some of the words in Steve Martin's "Daddy Played the Banjo" to "Grandma Played the Banjo" and there is even a "yellow" (golden chain) tree by the front porch. Outside is great!
