Do any of you girls use a 5th string capo, and if so,what kind? I'm window shopping for one.

I use the Reagan 5th string capo and like it. The only negatives are that I've had it move if I don't tighten it well enough and you need good close up vision to put it on. I'm getting a new banjo soon and am having spikes installed on it. :)

I just have the spikes. They work ok, the only downside is that it may cause a bit of the fingerboard to wear off underneath due to the string pressing down on the wood over and over. but it works good.

I'll be using the suspender 5th string capo as it looks pretty good-I've heard wonderful things about the Reagan one also- have you ever broken a string with it? That was one of the negative comments I've read about it.

Let us know how you like the suspender capo. I've not broken a string with the Reagan yet.

I am working on Tam Lin and several others right now. If I'd just concentrate on one, I'd improve much faster!

Cherbr how's Tam LIn coming? I know what you mean about focusing-I am memorizing "down the Road" and just starting on "Groundhog" how long have you been playing?

Good, but I keep trying different versions as the mood strikes me. Yesterday, I had Cluck Old Hen stuck in my head so I played that.
The thing with me is that I like Clawhammer and Bluegrass so I'm learning them both at the same time. Probably not a good idea but if I like a song, I want to play it yesterday!
I've been playing the banjo since June of last year. I've played the piano, flute and piccolo since childhood (I just turned 53) but always wanted to play the banjo.
Last year, I was compelled to buy a banjo and play. It's the instrument I should have been playing all along. Can't put it down. :)

I've been exploring a lot of different instruments over the past several years, and tho I like fiddle,it doesn't come naturally. It's the one I'm the worst at I think. So far I'd say banjo is easiest, and mandolin would be 2nd. I'm almost 49 (in Aug) and took a lot of classical guitar as a teen-bluegrass style technique reminds me a lot of classical guitar. I have a flute but never really got into it. Love the sound of flute and piano tho!

I have my grandmother's fiddle and am going to learn to play it one of these days. Banjo first!
The mandolin is another beautiful sounding instrument. How wonderful that you play the guitar as well!

I have an Epiphone MB-100 I bought from Guitar Center. I ordered a Chuck Lee custom Ovilla that will arrive soon. I am soooooo excited about it. Chuck Lee makes awesome sounding and looking banjos and he is a really nice guy.

How's the Epiphone been for you? Be sure to post pics of the Ovilla when it arrives. I've been eyeballing a Prairie model but no decisions yet.
