Looking to Buy

From tomchateau on 5/10/2024 3:37:06 PM

Hi All,

Many years ago I had a Ramsey Chanterelle but decided to sell it.  Now 20 years on I still miss it and want to buy another Ramsey. From what I read been reading on the Hangout though, it really is a buyer beware thing with the Ramsey's.

I have two questions; A) does anyone know where I can get one, and B) is it really a crap shoot when buying one?

        Thanks and All the Best...Tom

Some of his banjos are excellent. I am about to list on BHO classifieds my Ramsey/Chanterelle Amish model (so named for a very simple headstock). It was made when Mike was in Appomattox. Virginia. (People have told me those are some of his best.) Great sound. 12 inch rim. Frets have minimal wear. John Balch hide head. Let me know if you are interested.

I only have three of Mike Ramsey’s banjos. All of them are WONDERFUL! I bought 2 of them sight unseen through a popular sales website. I have never seen a bad one. The fact that they sell for $1500 and up when they are in great condition says a lot about how people value them.

I bought two of mine on / through Reverb. (I wasn’t sure if naming Reverb was allowed in my post above.) They have a reputation for stand behind sales on their website. I would buy more if I could afford them. All three of my Mike Ramsey banjos are wonderful but the last one that I bought is almost a work of art. I am proud to own it. I just wish that I was a better player.
