"Again, my humble opinion only: Mike moved to North Carolina to make himself judgement proof."
That is just ridiculous! Publishing it on a major website like this could be considered slander and could cause harm to Mike's Business prospects. A good lawyer and Mike may own your house...
Many banjo makers have waits of 1-2 years. You told him when he was supposed to have it ready. He simply agreed. He could easily state that you are in the cue and your banjo will be delivered when it is ready. Poof goes all your rants about fraud and criminal intent. You need to be a bit more patient. Mike is often extremely disorganized/distracted but a scammer, not in my experience. He doesn't react well to pushy people.
I know there are folks that have had similar tales to tell, and it's unfortunate that Mikes business acumen is not up to his banjo making skills. They did receive their banjos in a reasonable period.
I ordered a 12" Woodie from Mike last Spring. He said it would be ready in 3 weeks, I gave him 4 and when I went to pick it up, the lacquer had JUST dried but it was ready and sounds GREAT!
My advice, Mosey down to Pittsboro, bring a bottle of decent red wine and take Mike out for dinner. Apologize if you have been a jerk.

That's my opinion and as long as it is just that it's free speech last time I checked. But I appreciate your comments. I'd be glad to talk to Mike. I've tried to contact him 10- 12 times. He'd never gotten back to me. If he'd give me a reason to think otherwise I'd be glad to apologize and eat crow.

Ineresting rant, venting may be considered by some to be healthy. Unfortunately though there seems to be a major "hole" in your accusation. You mentioned early in your post that Mike was building you a banjo with "Vega #2 style inlays." You went on to mention that Mike said he was waiting for parts; and then when you saw a new Ramsey banjo for sale you automatically assumed that Mike scammed you– couldn't it have been possible that Mike was waiting for the special parts for your specific type of inlay and was still producing his standard models? Mike saveD me a lot of money on my banjo by selling it to me to direct – and you know what he didn't respond all my emails, but I eventually got a really nice instrument :)

Caveat emptor - let the buyer beware! I have stayed out of these discussions the last few years but I can no longer remain silent. I considered myself as one of Mike's oldest and best friends (as was Rag Time Joe, who I also know). I have received the now common and customary "Ramsey customer service treatment" myself. There are also others that have detailed their credible experiences of being screwed by Mike. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Ramsey has a pattern of criminal behavior, defrauding folks for years. John Bernuzzio gave him some vintage necks years ago for mike to match to new rims....14 years later....no response. After almost a year, I had to threaten a lawsuit and he finally sent me a cobbled together banjo that was a piece of armadillo excrement steaming in the hot sun. It cost me 200$ and a trip to Bob Smakula to fix the thing, including recutting the heel to fit the rim removing the putty Mike used to cover his shit poor work skills. So maybe he built a good banjo once, but now he has turned to the dark side and wishes to make a living by stealing. This is not slander. It's reality. It's time everyone realizes he's a dishonest person. When I was in his shop, there was no fresh sawdust and it's obvious he isn't building anymore. He recycles repairs and cobbles together excrement and attaches five strings. What a way to end his career.

Bart,
I would love to speak with Mike and get this resolved. I have considered Mike a close friend for over 30 years. If I am wrong I will gladly admit so publicly. But in order to do so I need to get some resolution with Mike which I am unable to do. Bart, you've managed to make your living without have any bad press whatsoever. How is it that you can do this, while Mike seems to have rather continual posts with the same flavor as mine? There is at least one other person I have spoken to in the last couple of days who has the same story as me. He also has a post on BHO independent of mine.
Again, if Mike will contact me and settle this issue I will be delighted to post that the matter is resolved and apologize publicly to both Mike and the BHO community. Until then, I stand by my statements and opinions.
