Just got off the phone with Phil at Zenith Music in WA.

He's made me an (EOFY) offer on a Deering Good Time 2 - 17 Fret Tenor.

$995 + $100 (for a hard case) includes delivery, tuner, 12 month warranty.

So far this seems like the best value deal i have found that fits my budget for my 1st banjo.

Thoughts? Anyone seen/heard this model (GT2-17)?

	Rilmart says: 6/29/2011 2:59:01 AM Havn't heard this model. Does it have a tone ring? reckon I wouldn't buy one without a tone ring if interested in bluegrass. I have played pretty good five string banjo in Canberra at Davis Wheeler Music (around $1000) in Phillip, think it was a Washburn. They also list Recording King instruments (which present themselves as making pretty good banjo's at the budget end of the scale). Deering are a pretty well known make, visited their factory in San Diego few years ago, played a Kingston Trio long neck model, would have loved to buy it but too much money.

I spent the night reading about the Deering Goodtime 2 17 Fret Tenor (GT2-17) both on this website and others and i rarely came across opinions that were anything but glowing for this entry level model. Since beginning this journey into Banjo land, I came to the realisation that this will just be my first Banjo and that something more expensive is certainly down the track. It will probably be Banjo 3 before i decide to roll a few reels down the local pub ;)
	Rilmart says: 6/30/2011 4:37:42 AM Mmm it does look very nice. Met a bloke named Karl at a session the other week who plays Irish 4 string among other things. He plays I think regularly at Hall markets with a similarly talented crony ?around 11am. Might be worth a drive some time.

	Rilmart says: 7/3/2011 8:28:24 PM I'm envious, thinking what an emotional impact the arrival of the Eucalypt open back was a few years ago. I'm tempted by their Burdekin plum wooden tone ring model. The jam sounds good too.
	Geekmason says: 7/3/2011 9:59:45 PM Yeah. I am most definitely eyeing off a Eucalypt Banjo for my second Banjo. I said to the wife that probably wont be for another 5 years, but i have a feeling i might buckle and get one sooner ;) The Marquetry and Inlay work is amazing.....
