Hi Guys,

Updated....... Welcome to Canberra Banjoneers Laurie Grundy of Grundy Banjos! :-)

Music Stores

Zenith Music (WA) http://www.zenithmusic.com/ - The only Australian distributor of Deering Goodtime Banjos (that i know of). I have just cut a deal with Phil Kay there recently to purchase a Deering Goodtime 2 Tenor Banjo.

Builders / Luthiers

Eucalypt Banjos (QLD - Mt Nebo) - http://www.banjoz.com - Custom hand made Banjos by Anne and Roger Simpson. I am considering buying my second Banjo here with custom Marquetry inlay (Square and Compass on the back :)

Grundy Banjos (VIC) - http://www.grundybanjos.com/index.htm - I haven't had any interaction with Laurie Grundy's business, but he keeps popping up in my (Australian) research. Hand crafter of banjos, and now member of Canberra Banjoneers. Welcome!

Bellbird Banjos -  http://www.bellbirdbanjos.com - Builder of banjo's in QLD and run a Banjo Camp in Maleny each year. This year it will be run from 8-11 December. See http://www.bellbirdbanjos.com/banjo_camp.php?ok=none for more details. Thanks to JimBobRascal for the info :)

Newman Guitars (NSW) - http://www.newmanguitars.com/ - Owned and operated by Stuart Newman on the far north NSW coast (Byron Bay). Builder and maintainer of many types of stringed instruments. Thanks to Rilmart for this tip :)

Banjo Brothers (VIC) - http://www.banjobrothersaustralia.com/ - Builders, modifiers and active in Banjo music and culture. I found these guys right here on BHO :)

Websites (information / social / tutoring)

Bluegrass Links - http://www.bluegrass.org.au/  and http://australianbluegrass.com/ - Not my taste in music, but there are Australian websites for it. The later looks more up to date.

Facebook (Page) - Banjo Players Australia - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Banjo-Players-Australia/239594512735303 - I just started this. I saw no real large social network based pages for Australian players, so I'll see how this goes. I'll try to replicate as much of the information i collate here, on there.

Facebook (Group) - Banjo Players United - http://www.facebook.com/groups/banjoplayersunited?ap=1 - An international Banjo page.

Facebook (Page) - Australian Bluegrass Blog - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Australian-Bluegrass-Blog/145343565543338 - From the website of the same name (above). Recently established

Facebook (Page) - Gray's Guitar and Banjo Lessons - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Grays-Guitar-and-Banjo-Lessons/148432761876569 and http://www.graytoney.com/ - Has provided lessons for Aussies if you're on the US clock ;)

Bellbird Banjos. These guys make outstanding banjos. Located in QLD. They also run an awesome yearly 'banjo camp' in Maleny.

Thanks Jim. My wife and I have actually been to Maleny (Dec/Jan 09/10). Very nice up there.

If you weren't learning tenor banjo, I'd recommend for you to try and attend the camp (which is at the end of this year). The actual camp/conference takes place at a resort/motel type thing just outside Maleny. Beautiful land.

Laurie Grundy, nice guy, bluegrass specialty, ?moving to US.

newmanguitars.com/instruments/banjo/
unconventional quirky instruments, haven't played one but plan to one day, good rap elsewhere, sounds like he'll make anything you want.

The instrument makers tent at the National Folk at Easter is a good place to try out some nice instruments. Bellbird and Eucalypt banjo's have been there in the past.

So many instruments and so short a time.
