Welcome

From Geekmason on 5/3/2011 3:47:17 AM

I thought i might create a Canberra based group for those in ACT/Canberra and greater NSW to join (and open to anyone else) and share knowledge and resources specific the the local area.

As I am just starting out myself, I'll certainly try to make the most of it ;)

Regards

GM

This is a fantastic idea! I feel a bit isolated as a picker in Canberra.

Does anyone know what resources exist in Canberra for bluegrass pickers? I'd be interested in attending jams in and around Canberra, but don't know where to find them. Perhaps we could start our own? :)

JimBob,

Have you checked the BlueGrass Australia website out? bluegrass.org.au/

Hey Geekmason,

Yeah, I've checked it out a few times. I've never found anything pertaining to Canberra on there, though. Also, it makes my eyes bleed. :)

You're right, I'm partially colour blind and still find it sensory overload ;)

Aren't there jam sessions at King Omalleys every Sunday and Tuesday night? Although they'd probably be more of the irish persuasion. Still, there's no harm in taking a banjo to those.

If there are I'd like to check them out. I love irish tunes. So hooked on Maid behind the bar right now.

I have purchased Enda Scahill's tutor book from endascahill.com and hope that will set me straight on starting. I know I could have gotten a 5 string and plenty of help on that, but I just love the tenor :-)

I'll do a separate blog entry about some online resources i have found. I also bought a Mel Bay tenor tutor book today for $4 off ebay :)
