I grew up in an old time footwashing baptist church, which I still attend, that was filled with shape note singing with all the harmonies. My Mom and Dad would sing together and on many Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons they would gather at my Uncles or a friends house and sing. They didn't play instruments but the singing was very much like bluegrass. When I started playing the banjo 30 some years ago it was just natural for me to play bluegrass gospel. Our band now plays more gospel than secular BG. We play for churches 2 to 1 over regular BG shows. We never charge a fee to play in a church but they always take up a love offering. Sometimes they love us a lot and sometimes not :) But it is always rewarding.

I also lived in Louisville, Ky for 4 years ( 1984- 1987 ) and pastored a small baptist church up on the Ohio River near Bedford while attending the Baptist seminary there. Great days and beautiful part of God's earth. Bobby
